Abstract

In the context of the implementation of the constitutional reform provisions on the preservation of historical memory, as well as the natural increase in the role of patriotic education in the context of global political transformations, all aspects related to historical and legal science and its dynamics are of particular importance. The 100th anniversary of the Institute of Legislation and Comparative Law under the Government of the Russian Federation seems to be a good reason to turn to the fledging period of the scientific school of the history of state and law, which was formed at the Institute during the period when it was called the All-Union Institute of Legal Sciences, and by the main parameters occupied a leading place in the national historical and legal science.

The purpose of the study is to identify the features of the formation of the historical and legal school of the Institute in the 1930s and 1940s, to show its influence on domestic jurisprudence.

The research methodology includes formal-legal, historical and system-structural methods.

The article reveals the contribution made to the formation of the historical and legal school of the Institute by B. I. Syromyatnikov, S. V. Yushkov, Z. M. Chernilovsky and other scientists. The role of the Institute’s staff in the development of educational and methodological support for teaching the history of state and law is emphasized. It is concluded that during the period under review, a scientific historical and legal school was formed at the Institute, which had no analogues in the country at that time.
