Abstract

The 100th anniversary of the Institute of Legislation and Comparative Law under the Government of the Russian Federation, celebrated in 2023, encourages us to turn to the scientific biography of this scientific institution, showing in it what defines its reputation in science. First of all, the name of the Institute is associated with the creation and development of the general theory of lawmaking. Its scientists have created an independent branch of scientific knowledge on law-making with a complex architecture. Many of the doctrines forming it are considered as relatively independent, but together they form a single theory of a higher order.

The article describes the law-making doctrines developed by the Institute’s scientists, demonstrates their theoretical and practical significance, and identifies the main directions of development of the relevant blocks of scientific knowledge and the theory of law-making in general. The originality of formation of this knowledge at the Institute, the peculiarities of scientific search and acquisition of research experience, which allowed the Institute to build a constructive dialogue of legal theory and practice, are shown.
