Abstract

The article is devoted to the life and work of Professor Ivan S. Samoshchenko and prepared by his student Alexander F. Nozdrachev in connection with the 100th anniversary of the Institute of Legislation and Comparative Law under the Government of the Russian Federation. Ivan S. Samoshchenko worked for a long time at the All-Union Research Institute of Soviet Legislation (one of the former names of the Institute), headed it, was the First Deputy Minister of Justice of the USSR, organized work on the systematization of Soviet legislation, was one of the authors of the USSR Constitution of 1977.

When considering the creative heritage of Ivan S. Samoshchenko, special attention is paid to the analysis of his works in the field of legal theory, including those devoted to offenses, legal responsibility and ensuring the rule of law. The contribution of the scientist to the preparation of the most important bills of the Soviet period is highlighted. The biography of I. S. Samoshchenko is revealed, the author's personal memories related to his relationship with the teacher are given.

This publication is based on the article by A. F. Nozdrachev “Remembering the Teacher (On the Occasion of the 90th Anniversary of Birth of I. S. Samoshchenko)” (Journal of Russian Law, 2015, no. 9, pp. 111—121). In the presented edition, the text of the article has been substantially supplemented and clarified.
